This year Emily took part in the 7th annual Swim for Melissa to raise money for the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation, which purchases lifesaving equipment for the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.
As you probably remember, Emily spent 4 weeks in the NICU at Huntsville Hospital when she was born. She was born 8 weeks premature and weighed only 3lbs 3oz. We have talked to Emily about the doctors and nurses that took care of her and the equipment that was used during her stay in the NICU. This is a cause that is very near and dear to us. We want to help purchase newer and better equipment for the NICU so that many tiny lives can be saved!
We held numerous fundraisers over the summer, including a lemonade stand, a Chick-fil-A night, a Frostbite day, Tastefully Simple orders and many generous cash contributions!
On Saturday, August 11, Emily took part in a non-competitive swim at Hampton Cove pool. She and her teammates raised over $5000 and over $125,000 was raised that weekend and all of the money raised will go towards the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for critically ill premature babies. Some of these babies are so small, they can fit in the palm of your hand!
It was a wonderful experience and a joy to be able to give back to a cause that means so much to our family!!!
