Remembering a very special lady today....

August 31st.....this day will always flood my memories of my dear sweet Mama Gober. This would have been her 98th birthday, and she loved her birthdays. It meant that her house would be packed with family to celebrate. That was a King family tradition started by her brothers and sisters and herself. When one of them was celebrating a birthday, they would gather and bring food and celebrate the day, and that trickled down to their children, grandchildren, great-grandkids and friends. Everyone knew when Trannie, Cecil, Clinton, Jewel, Betty or Pernie's birthday's were...we looked forward to them. And, the celebration usually ended with the King brothers and sisters singing a few of their favorite hymn's. Oh, how I missed that birthday celebration today! I've also been thinking about all the fun as a child that I had with her. I got to spend my early years with her and my Papa. She taught me lots of fun, silly songs like "Ooo-E-ooo-ah-ah". I can still see her in her kitchen frying up some homemade fried apple pies, or rolling out dough for homemade biscuits or rolls.....they were AMAZING!!!! Nothing frozen or canned here :) And she would make the most beautiful quilts....I can still see her and all the ladies that would come over to quilt working on one of her masterpieces. She would always let me quilt too, even though I didn't make the straightest stitches :) And, she could grow the most amazing plants and flowers. I swear, she could stick a dead twig in the ground, and root it into a beautiful plant. I could go on and on about this wonderful lady, and you would have read a novel when I was finished. She was the best Grandmother, and I am so glad that Emily got to experience her love for a short time. We have lots of treasured memories of her great-grandmother to pass along to her, and some gorgeous quilts to give to her one day too. I know she had a wonderful birthday celebration in Heaven today, surrounded by loved ones, and her Lord and Saviour....Love you Mama!!!!

The Beach - Wednesday/Thursday

Wednesday and Thursday were full of fun for us at the beach. On Wednesday, we spent the day at the beach and pool again, watching Emily and her new friend, Sierra, play. Then, we went to Doc's for some great seafood, then over to The Wharf to ride the ferris wheel and get some great ice cream!
Thursday was more playtime with Sierra. Emily FINALLY got in the big pool on Thursday, and by the end of the evening, was jumping in. She was having such a good time, that we just stayed in, and Scott grilled us a delicious steak with some steamed shrimp....Delicious!!! We ate poolside while Emily played. It was a great day!!!

The Beach - Tuesday

Another day full of fun and sun at the beach!!!
We spent the day swimming and napping :) Emily made a new friend today...Sierra. They had a blast in the pool with their baby dolls, teaching them how to swim. This evening, we had more great seafood at The Original Oyster House. Then, we took Emily to The Track to ride some fun carnival rides. She absolutely loves the rides there.
Emily asked Scott tonight if this was vacation...LOL!

The Beach - Monday

We had another great day today. The tropical storm created pretty high winds this morning, so we got out and did a little shopping, ate and had ice cream at our favorite place...Scoops. The winds finally calmed, so we were able to spend the afternoon and evening at the beach and pool. We enjoyed a great dinner in tonight...Scott boiled shrimp, potatoes and corn...it was DELICIOUS!!!! We are looking forward to better weather tomorrow and the rest of the week!!! Emily can't wait to get out to the pool tomorrow to play with her new little friend :)

The Beach - Sunday

Well....we woke up this morning to news that a tropical storm was brewing in The Gulf, but you would not have known it here. The weather was absolutely perfect today. We spent more time on the beach and in the pool. Then, had a fun photo session on the beach with a great photography team, Sun-Shots. They were so much fun! Then, some great seafood at Michael's. We have never eaten there before, but it's now one of our new fav's! Here are just a few pictures from today. Hopefully, our professional shots will be up in a couple of days!!!

Chuck-E-Cheese

After much persuasion, I finally let Suzanne and the girls convince me to let Emily come to Chuck-E-Cheese to play. I am not a huge fan of the place, so we have tried to keep it a secret from Emily for as long as possible :) She and the girls had a blast though. I really think we could have gone in and not spent a single token...Emily was just so amazed at all the lights and sounds...she would just run from game to game and press the buttons, and then run to the next one....pretty funny! It was a fun night, and much deserved for our little Potty-Champion....over 2 weeks...not a single accident!!!!!

Playin' Dress-up!!!

Thursday night, Emily wanted to pull clothes out of the closet and play dress-up. So, I decided to play photographer too :) We set up a little studio, and had a blast! I know, I'm far from Heather Mitchell or Tera Wages, but it was a lot of fun to pretend to be great like them!!!
